Omanakutty is a leading carnatic vocalist. She is born in a family of musicians. Both her parents were renowned musicians. Her elder brother M.G. Radhakrishnan is a carnatic vocalist, music composer and play back singer and her younger brother M. G. Sreekumar is also a well known musician.Dr. Omanakutty took her doctorate in music and taught at the University of Kerala and various government collages in Kerala. She is serving as the Dean of Music in the Kerala University.She has written extensively on music and has done pioneering research in Swathi compositions. She is well respected teacher too
